Week 4 brought my first skipped run and my first no fun long run. Maybe sounds like it wasn’t a great running week but I am actually pretty happy with it. 3 out of 4 runs is pretty good considering how hot it has been every single day and I got my mid long and long run done so I’m going to call that a success.
Long run: I woke up at 7am on Saturday with the intention of beating the heat and getting my 9 miles done early. One cup of tea in bed turned into 11am pretty quick so I had no other choice but to go out in the mid day heat. From the get go I was not into this run and was really just getting through it one step at a time. I brought my hand held water bottle and am so grateful that I did because it was so damn hot, I drank every last drop! I had a minor dizzy spell around mile 6 which was a bit worrying so I decided to stick to the shadiest areas I could find for the last 3 miles and that did help. When I run more than 6 miles I like to have a bit of sugar to help me along the way so I brought some little coke bottle candies and ate them at mile 5. I really need to start testing out some different nutrition products or ideas because I really don’t think I can get through 26.2 miles on candy alone but also the thought of gels makes me nauseous. Something I will be looking into in the future!
Monday: Rest Rest
Tuesday: 1-3 miles 4 miles
Wednesday: 4 miles 1.8 miles
Thursday: 1- 3 miles 0 miles
Friday: Rest Rest
Saturday: 9 miles 9 miles
Sunday: Cross train Cross train (walk)
Next week is going to be a tough one for me. I am flying to Vancouver on Saturday morning so I wont have the weekend to get my long run done, which means I will have to get my 10 miles in after work one day. It also doesn’t look like this heat is going anywhere, which I am generally very happy about but just makes training that little bit more difficult. I’m going to take it easy on myself this week and get done what I can.
