I have been doing my own hair for a while now.  It’s been a good few years since I have even stepped foot in a salon, but with my wedding coming up in a few weeks I decided it was probably time to get this head looked at by someone who knows what they are doing. I didn’t really know where to start when I was looking for salons that would use vegan products but I was pleasantly surprised to find out with a quick search that London has an all vegan hair salon! So I thought why not venture out of my East London bubble and head west for a few hours to see what this “getting my hair done by a professional” was all about.

First off I was slightly nervous about going in there with my hack job of a hair cut and partially washed out semi permanent black/green locks but after talking to the stylist on the phone, he asked me to send him a photo over Facebook so he could get an idea of what we would be doing and to be honest sending the photo made me feel much less anxious about the actual appointment since he already knew what he is getting into.

Coming from Bethnal Green it was super easy for me to get there, I just sat on the central line all the way across the centre of London and got off at Shepherd’s Bush station. From there it was about an 8 minute walk. It was a little hard to find because it is literally a hole in the wall, but after looking at the address again I spotted the yellow door. First impressions of this place were that it was cozy, like being in someones impeccably decorated flat. The aesthetic was beautiful and had a bit of an Alice in Wonderland vibe.

I went in not really knowing what I wanted done, but I knew I needed to get rid of this muddy green colour that my hair had turned after my blue black faded out. Lucky for me, Luke was able to translate my stuttering vague descriptions of what I had in mind and went straight into it. I was there for a good 3 hours at least because the green tinge did not want to go but it was a very comfortable and fun place to spend the early afternoon.

When it came to cutting my hair, again Luke understood what I was after and made it look gorgeous while keeping the length as I had asked. He gave me tips about how to keep up the colour and seemed happy to explain things as he was doing them, which was amazing for me since I really enjoy being able to do my own hair.

Overall I couldn’t recommend this place enough. Even though I am still a keen hair DIYer, I will be adding a few visits a year to the Rabbit Hole to my calendar for a refresh. It’s so great to be able to go to a salon and not even have to ask if they have a vegan shampoo or even about dairy alternatives for tea. It was mentioned that they will be moving into a larger space in a few months time, so I look forward to seeing the new salon on my next visit!
