Its all in the title really, this post is all about things I enjoyed in May. I hope to make this into a monthly series that will cover things like beauty products, clothing items, Movies, TV and books.
I would love to read more consistently so I could start a book club kind of thing but am very easily distracted so I find it hard to read on the tube or anywhere that is not my bed…HELP. Currently the goal is one book per month, this month was an easy one because I have been wanting to read it for months, so lets start there;
Book of the month:
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
I actually got this book for my birthday back in November, but since I hadn’t read through the series in over a year and a half!?! I decided to try and hold off reading this new one until I had read all the books through again(for the 3rd or 4th time). I made it to The Order of the Phoenix and decided I could wait no more, the books were getting too big and I just wasn’t reading fast enough.
I have to say I did have some high expectations for this book because of how in love I am with the HP series, but this just did not fulfill any of my hopes. I don’t know if it was because it was written as a screen play, but I found that it didn’t transport me to the wizarding world in the same way. The plot was alright, though probably would have been only 2 chapters worth of story in the previous books. Still as a Harry Potter fan I am glad I read it. Not likely to pay £250 to see the play anytime soon though.
Next up is sunscreen! Very important stuff this month as we have been having some lovely weather here in London. My current choice is a SPF 30 mineral sunscreen from the brand Jasön. It is of course vegan and is really good if you have sensitive skin. I mostly apply this to my face (doesn’t seem to melt my makeup) and on my tattoos. Works great.
Another, slightly less important product for summer… exfoliating foot scrub! I found this at Superdrug, from their all vegan home brand ‘B.’ I really like the smell and feels really nice on my feet. I have to admit I have taken pretty poor care of the skin on my feet over the winter so I may need to double down with this stuff.
Next up is the only bit of makeup I bought this month (yay me) was the Eyes Right mascara from Lush. This is my first time using any of Lush’s cosmetics and I am now curious to try more! I really like this mascara for everyday makeup. It took me a minute to find the vegan tag on the bottle because it’s not their usual one but it’s on there! Also the first ingredient on the bottle is wheatgrass, so my lashes are basically drinking green juice all day.
Lastly in terms of beauty products, I’ve got Pacifica Coconut Probiotic water rehab cream, which sounds insane but it smells amazing and goes on really nice and light on my face. I needed a new face cream since Holland and Barrett decided to stop stocking my North American Hemp Co cream, so I thought I would give it a shot. My only issue with this one is that it’s pretty expensive. I think it was £16 or £17 and comes in a pretty small tube, but I will see how long it lasts me before I decide whether to continue using it.
Moving on to movies and TV shows.
My Scientology Movie – I have watched so many Louis Theroux documentaries over the last few years. I’m into his awkward pauses where he makes everyone uncomfortable (including the viewer!). He gets into some interesting subcultures as well. Scientology is one of those things that I just don’t get. After watching this film, I still don’t get it. Seems super dodgy though.
Imperium – This movie is pretty intense and unsettling, but I also found it held my attention and kept me guessing the whole way through. Without giving too much away, Daniel Radcliffe goes undercover and gets involved in a white supremacy gang. Definitely worth a watch.
Girl Boss: I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Girl Boss as much as I did. I thought it was funny and sad, exactly my cup of tea. Netflix originals have been really good recently.
Dear white people: I powered through this series while my fiancé was away for work. It was nice to watch something that makes you think about things sometimes I guess.
Riverdale: As a kid I read a lot of Archie comics so I feel better watching this Netflix teen drama. I like that it is mystery based, but doesn’t drag things out for too long. I am into it and may have a thing for Jughead. Will be watching season 2.
Parks and Recreation: I have been re-watching Parks and Rec. It has been a few years since first watching it so just enough time has gone by that all I remember is how funny it was. It is such a good show. Leslie Knope is so loveable, I want her in my life.
The only other thing I’ve got for this month is my new Toms shoes that I posted on instagram a few weeks ago. I used to wear the classics all the time but I think they look a bit weird with ankle socks and I cannot live my life not wearing socks under my shoes. I went onto their website and filtered ‘vegan’ and tons of options came up! These are perfect for everyday wear and are super light and comfortable.
I feel like this was a pretty long list this month. In the next few months I will be in search of a few things for my upcoming wedding in terms of hair and makeup so hopefully I will have some new finds for June! Let me know if you have tried any of these products or like any of the same trashy TV as me! I need to know I’m not alone.
